35-S 739(f) (Germany/France, WW2)
When France was defeated, the Germans seized the remaining S35s (around
297) and reused them as Beutepanzers under the name Panzerkampfwagen 35-S
739(f), after replacing the APX cupola turret with a double-wing hatch
turret as on panzers. They were converted into training tanks or tanks for
law enforcement, in particular against resistance fighters. While some
were sent to the Eastern Front, others fought in Finland against the Red
Army (one was even captured there). The Wehrmacht also used SOMUA S-35s to
fight against the FFI during the liberation of Paris in August 1944.
