Game 3 - Philadelphia 8 New York 6 (Kaat vs. Figueroa)
Just like Alexander in game one, Ed Figueroa put his team in a deep hole by giving up 5 runs in the 1st inning.
Schmidt, Maddox, Johnstone, McCarver, and Allen all had RBI's in the inning. Two runs came on a bases loaded walk
and then a hit batter. The Yankees returned the favor in the bottom of the 1st getting two runs on a RBI single
by Chris Chambliss and a bases loaded walk to Lou Pinella. The Phils scored 2 more in the top of the 3rd, but
New York got a solo shot from Chambliss to make the score 7-3. The Yanks added another run in the 4th, then
they chased Kaat with a two run homerun by Gregg Nettles in the 5th. Philadelphia added an insurance run in
the 6th on an RBI single by Maddox which made the score 8-6. New York got runners on base in the 6th, 7th,
8th, and 9th, but they could not push through against the bullpen trio of Wayne Twitchell, Tug McGraw, and
Ron Reed.
Philadelphia leads 3-0.

Game 4 - Philadelphia 1 New York 2 (Underwood vs. Ellis)
Unlike the other games, this one was a tense pitching duel. Willie Randoph led off the Yankees half of the 1st with a
triple, then Mickey Rivers followed that with a two run blast to right for the only runs the home team would need. The
Phillies pushed across a run in the 6th when Cash led off getting hit by a pitch and Luzinski doubled, but Doc only gave
up a sac fly after that. In the 8th, Philadelphia loaded the bases with 2 outs, but Sparky Lyle got Boone to ground out
to end the inning. Ellis went 7-2/3 giving up just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 4. Lyle finished the game striking
out 2 in the 9th. Underwood gave up just 3 hits in 8 innings of work, but the River's 1st inning homerun made him the hard
luck loser.
Philadelphia leads 3-1.

Game 5 - Philadelphia 5 New York 2 (Alexander vs. Carlton)
A rematch of the game 1 starters, this one was also a pitching duel. New York broke the scoreless tie when Mickey Rivers
hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 6th. In the top of the 7th, the Phillies responded with two runs on a sac fly by Dick
Allen and a bases loaded wild pitch by Alexander. The Phils took the 2-1 lead into the 9th, then things unraveled for the
Yankees. Dick Allen singled home another run, then Gregg Nettles committed a two base throwing error that allowed 2 more
runs to score making it 5-1. New York scored 1 run in the bottom of the ninth, but Ron Reed closed the door on a 5-2 win.
Carlton picked up his second win of the series, going 8-2/3 charged with 2 runs on 7 hits. Alexander picked up the loss
despite giving up just 2 runs on 4 hits in 6-1/3. Grant Jackson was credited with a blown save for giving up 3 runs in
2-2/3 innings of relief with 5 walks.
Philadelphia wins 4-1.
