Atlanta wins Super Bowl III over Pittsburgh 30-7 Super Bowl III matched the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Atlanta Falcons. After both teams punted on their first possession, Atlanta took over at their own 23 and proceeded to drive 77 yards in 9 plays mostly on the ground and Warrick Dunn went off tackle for the final 9 yards to put Atlanta up 7-0 with 4:26 left in the 1st quarter. After 3 punts, the Falcons took over on their 31 and drove to the Pittsburgh 31 where Dunn was stuffed on 3rd and 2 and Robbie Gould kicked a 48 yard field goal with 8:38 left in the second to put Atlanta up 10-0. The Steelers went 3 and out and Donnie Jones fumbled the snap on the punt setting Atlanta up at the Pitt 13. The Falcons had to settle for 3 and built a 13-0 lead. The Falcons drove to the Pitt 7 with 22 seconds left in the half but a 3rd down pass was picked off by Troy Polamalu and though dominating the Falcons only lead 13-0 at the half in what could have been much worse. Pittsburgh stated the second half with momentum from the pick and a return to their 35 yard line. On the second play Fred Taylor put the ball on the ground and Atlanta took over at the Pitt 45. A harmless looking 3rd and 11 draw saw Warrick Dunn break a few tackles and go 22 yards to put Atlanta up 20-0 with 11:02 left in the 3rd. Pittsburgh went 3 and out again and Atlanta went on a 72 yard 11 play drive that took 8:46 off the clock and was capped with Dunn's 3rd TD of the game a 2 yard run to put Atlanta up 27-0 with 41 seconds left in the 3rd. Pittsburgh's offense put together their best drive of the game going 81 yards to score their first points on a 3 yard hitch from Ben Roethlisberger to Fred Taylor to cut the lead to 27-7 with 9:04 left. Atlanta would add a field goal to close out the scoring and win 30-7. Game MVP was Warrick Dunn rushing 29 times for 123 yards and 3 td's. Robbie Gould had 3 field goals for the winners and Isaac Bruce caught 7 balls for 91 yards. Pittsburgh was lead by Fred Taylor who had 72 yards on 18 carries. Tamba Hali had 3 sacks and Dewayne White had a sack, a stuff, 3 hurries and 2 forced fumbles for Atlanta,. Larry Foote had 10 tackles for the Steelers. Atlanta out gained Pittsburgh 336-167.
